1998 Nagano Winter Olympics Website Review.

Before NBC could put a website together. Before Quokka Sports could rise to power and crash; there was Studio Archetype. Started sometime around 1995 by Clement Mok, the company created some of the best work ever produced for the Internet. Though their designs are decidedly old-school the style was full of detail. Every pixel either devoted to art or function, sometimes both.

Today's sports sites are full of text, text, and more text, jumbled with a few good photos and tossed together with ads and tether masts that declare loyalty to MSN or AOLTW.

Back in 1998 there was still a frontier being explored. New design techniques were being used and CSS was just an idea, not something many designers dared to use. And so it was with tools like HTML 3.2 and Photoshop 4.0 that Mr. Mok and company put together the greatest Olympics sports site ever created.

Not since the official site for the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympic Games has any other sports site come close to the sweet marriage of design, architecture, and function that was this website.

Here provides a collection of screenshots for you to behold. I hope you have as much fun looking at them as I have.
